The Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living is all about showing people how to live sustainably through use of clean energy, good waste management practices and growing and preparing their own food. The Centre is particularly prolific in terms of the latter with a range of workshops brought out every year covering various aspects of food growing and preparation.
While a number of the more in-depth courses require a fee to attend, many of the workshops are completely free - kindly sponsored by the Campbelltown City Council. This February the Centre is offering 5 free workshops related to gardening and cooking your harvest.
The courses offer value for both the beginner gardener as well as the more experienced green thumb. Particularly of interest this month to the camper-in-you is the workshop on Solar Cooking. Solar Cooking involves using energy from direct sunlight to cook food - definitely a nifty skill to acquire. On the other hand, the workshop on No-Dig Gardens, will be of interest to the time-poor, as it provides a convenient solution for preparing highly fertile beds for growing.
