FREE Sunshine Coast Open House (SCOH)

How exciting in this! The FREE inaugural Sunshine Coast Open House is a celebration of iconic architecture and design throughout the Sunshine Coast region. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to tour thirty architecturally diverse - historical and contemporary - buildings from Caloundra to Cooroy and beyond. Sunshine Coast Open House is part of the Open House Worldwide network and is the initiative of the Sunshine Coast Council, Noosa Shire Council and the Australian Institute of Architects Sunshine Coast Regional Chapter.

This year's Open House is also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the naming of the Sunshine Coast and highlights the growth and innovation within the Sunshine Coast region over the past fifty years. Visitors will enjoy access to unique places not always available for viewing, creating public awareness of local history, design excellence and identity. The Sunshine Coast Open House will be the first of an ongoing tradition to promote increased design and cultural tourism within the Sunshine Coast region…hopefully, for many years to come.

Ok, so what's really happening - absolutely heaps as you will soon see.

**FREE Sunshine Coast Architecture - Past, Present and the Future - BOOKINGS ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS EVENT
Saturday 14 October 2017
3.00pm arrival for 3.30pm start; concludes 5.00pm
Where: The Majestic Cinema, Nambour C-Square Shopping Centre, Currie Street, Nambour**

Starting on the 14 October 2017 visitors are invited to the FREE Sunshine Coast Architecture - Past, Present and the Future panel discussion to hear from six leading Sunshine Coast Architects on how architecture has evolved on the Sunshine Coast over the past fifty years and how it could evolve in the next fifty years.

Speakers include John Mainwaring, Lindsay Clare, Ian Dimond, David Teeland, Dan Sparks and John Robertson. Each panel member brings different experiences and design ideals to the discussion and will review the design challenges 50 years ago and what the design challenges will be for the next 50 years. They will consider how Sunshine Coast architecture has evolved since the 1960's and what are the design possibilities for our changing sub-tropical urban lifestyle in the future.

Even though this event is FREE, registration is required and you can register online here.

Following the panel discussion, refreshments will be served in The Bison Bar.

To read more pertinent information re the photography competition and to enter, please click here.

    **FREE Walk Caloundra Heritage Tour
    Saturday 21 October 2017
    10.00am to 11.00am
Where: Meet in front of the Sunshine Coast Council Administration Building, 1 Omrah Avenue, Caloundra**

Can you believe that 2017 marks one hundred years since Caloundra's first land allotments were made available for sale at the Bulcock Estate. This is the area, we today know as the Caloundra CBD and Happy Valley.

Enjoy a leisurely stroll through Caloundra while you learn interesting historical titbits from days of a by-gone era. Walk along the town's footpaths, past shops and beautiful beaches. Learn about the two Caloundra lighthouses and especially the oldest lighthouse from 1896, which today is the oldest surviving building in Caloundra.

Again, this fantastic stroll through history is totally FREE, but to ensure that you don't miss out, walkers need to register - registration can be done online here. If, for some reason, you are unable to attend (once you have registered), please cancel your ticket, via email, to [email protected] so that somebody else can have the opportunity to take this historical walk through Caloundra.

Please remember to wear suitable shoes, a hat and bring along a bottle of water.

    **FREE Nambour Heritage Tour
    Saturday 21 October 2017
    10.00am to 11.00am
Where: Meet in front of the Eddie De Vere Building, 130-134 Currie Street, Nambour**

Take a step back in time with the FREE Nambour Heritage Tour as you absorb this area's rich historical landscape. Learn about major events that contributed to build the well-known character of Nambour, including the early European settlement and the sugar cane industry.

Please remember to wear suitable shoes, a hat and bring along a bottle of water.

Even though this Heritage walk is FREE, guests need to register, which can be done online here. And, as with the Caloundra Heritage Tour, if, for some reason, you are unable to attend (once you have registered), please cancel your ticket, via email, to [email protected] so that somebody else can have the opportunity to take this historical walk.

    ** Nambour Heritage Soundtrail
Self-guided tour available anytime - (no need to book)**

The Nambour Heritage Soundtrail is a new GPS activated, audio story trail that features eighteen stories of Nambour told by locals, including Bob Collins, June Upton, Brent Miller, Lyndon Davis and many more. The trail is narrated by Powderfinger's John Coghill and has a funky soundtrack from musicians Lee Hardisty and Leon Tussy.

As this walking tour is self-guided, choose your day and visit prominent sites in Nambour such as Collins Café, Vogue Cinema, BCC Supermarkets, C-Square and Bayards and learn more about the history of the town.

This Soundtrail can either be experienced as a walking tour of Nambour, or, alternatively the trail can be accessed from your desktop computer - not so much fun and probably won't contribute too much to one's daily Pedometer steps. The project is jointly funded by the Heritage Levy and Nambour Activation Plan. This will be the first 'Soundtrails' experience in Queensland (there are already a number of them in NSW).

Simply download the app (via the App Store or Google Play) onto your smartphone or iPad, see yourself on a GPS map and walk freely in and out of sound fields - a seriously cool way to experience Nambour's historical background.
