On a clear night, peer into outer space on the edge of the New Jersey Meadowlands. Each night, the William D. McDowell Observatory dedicates their lens to two major night-sky objects. Watch the slow movements of the Moon, Venus, Mars, or Saturn. Cast wishes upon bright stars like Vega, Alberio, Double-Double, and the less-creatively named clusters and nebula, M13 and M57—all visible in the June sky.
The Lyndhurst observatory, located in Dekorte Park adjacent to the Meadowlands Environment Center, invites you to use their telescope twice a week—Mondays and Wednesdays—for free. They host two sessions, one at 8 pm and one at 9 pm. Both hold only 25 people, so arrive early for this first-come, first-served event. Children are welcome with an adult.
