If times are tough after Christmas but you still want to make the most of the school holidays, don't stress. Melbourne has a huge range of free activities for kids on offer:
Kids in the Studio : Summer Lights @ ACMI

Children have the opportunity to explore and enjoy the wonder of light by making their own lantern at Kids in the Studio : Summer Lights. When the lanterns are decorated they can be added to the installation in the ACMI Lightwell. Visitors to ACMI can also see the mesmerising exhibition Screenworlds for free.

Lofty the Lighthorse @ the Shrine of Remembrance

Families can learn about Lofty the Light Horse and Australian military history at the Shrine of Remembrance. This is a self guided tour, just ask for the Children's Tour Book at the Visitor Centre. A series of activities and questions in the book will help families to navigate their way around the Shrine. Those who finish the tour will receive a Shrine Explorer Bag. Participants will also be entered into a draw to win one of three Friends of the Shrine Family Memberships.

Scarecrow Making Workshops @ The Pop Up Patch

The Pop Up Patch at Federation Square is hosting free Scarecrow Making Workshops on Sundays throughout the school holidays. All materials are supplied. Children can take home their scarecrow at the end of the workshop. Those attending are asked to wear old clothes that they don't mind getting dirty.

just sing what you feel @ NGV Kids Corner

The three part exhibition just sing what you feel at the NGV Kids Corner is sure to entertain. Children have the opportunity to create a 'yeah' flag, sing with artist Jon Campbell in a karaoke booth and create their own Australian backyard experience using Campbell's drawings.

Futurescape @ ARTPLAY

Help to create a wonderful outdoor sculpture with artist Helen Bodycomb for ARTPLAY'S backyard. Kids taking part in the Futurescape workshop will participate in the design and construction process. If you miss out on the workshops ARTPLAY have some great activities you can do at home .
