School Holiday Program - Collections
What do kids like to collect? The Museum collects all sorts of things, from Australian
Aboriginal hunting tools to butterflies and even whale skeletons! Discover why collections are important and how they can be the key to the future in this exciting, hands-on free school holiday program.
Kids can bring in a treasure from their own collection and talk with experts from
Artlab Australia about how best to take care of the collection. Step into the Confessions of a Collector booth, were kids can record thoughts about collections and hang them anonymously for others to see. They can also learn how to curate their own collection and sequence, group and interpret the Museum collections.
There's so much on offer, check the
website for details, bookings are essential.
Whale Workshops
Kids are fascinated by these creatures, and they can explore different whales in the Museum's world class cetacean collection including humpback whales, killer whales, blue whales and sperm whales. They can also turn a collection of recycled bottles into a pod of floating whales, and create funny, imaginative and empathetic stories about humans and whales, using a whale creation as inspiration.
