I want to give like Santa and save like Scrooge this year. Namely, I want to save like Scrooge while my kids are visiting Santa. Help!

Where are the best places for free photos with Santa? Please share your tips in the "share your local knowledge" box.

For two consecutive years, I took my kids to the Springvale Homemaker Centre , where Harvey Norman had a Santa photo centre set up. One photo was free, of course with the hopes that families would purchase a larger package. It was just okay. Inconsistent lighting sort of ruined our photos, with sunlight shining in the kids' eyes, and life jackets visible in the background from the Anaconda Sports try-a-kayak-before-you-buy pool.

Myer has Santaland in the CBD, where you can actually book a session to visit with Santa for free, without committing to a photo package. I am, however, quite interested in the actual photo. No go.

From 10am-3pm at Christmas Square (City Square), you can see Santa for free, and, if you bring your own camera, you are permitted to take photos yourself.

While not quite hitting the mark for me, you can get a free personalised video greeting from Santa Claus here.

Markets? Fetes? Shopping Centres? Stay on Santa's "nice list", and tell us the best kept secret in Melbourne. Where can we get free photos with Santa?
