[SECTION]The best online free samples in Australia[/SECTION]

Looking to try before you buy? Ordering free samples by mail is a great way to test products without having to buy the full-sized item. Finding freebies online can be difficult, so I have put together this guide of current and ongoing online free samples that are available to Australians. Some require you to sign up to surveys or mailing lists, while others have no strings attached.

Click through to find out how to get loads of stuff for free, from cosmetics to pet food to electronics, and please do contribute further suggestions in the comments.

[SECTION]Beauty products[/SECTION]
Finding free samples of beauty products is the dream. It can be costly to invest in new cosmetics, especially if you aren't sure you will like the item. There are some makeup and beauty freebies to be found online, though you often have to hunt through many search results to find legitimate free products to try, especially as not all are available to Australian residents. Free makeup promotions only occur when new products come out, but there are some skin products which can be obtained for free year-round.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter will send one sample per household, with a choice of face care, body care, or mother care. Signing up to their mailing list is optional (often free samples require you to sign up).

Aveeno daily moisturising lotion , Aqua skin care , Riversol skin care , Monat shampoo and conditioner , and Immunocologie skin care are all simple to sign up to in order to receive your free sample.

[SECTION]Toothpaste[/SECTION]
You have to keep an eye out for oral care promotions, but there are two companies with year-round toothpaste freebies: Sensodyne and White Glo.

Each day, the first 50 people to sign up to the White Glo mailing list receive a free sample pack containing toothpaste, a toothbrush, and flosser toothpicks.

Sensodyne , the toothpaste for those with sensitive teeth and worn down enamel, gives out free toothpaste samples- all you have to do is fill out a simple form.

[SECTION]Period products[/SECTION]
Free samples of pads and tampons are easy to come by- but they're not just for teens starting out. Freebies are a great way to try different brands and find a new favourite. Try Carefree or SOFY Be Fresh for a one-off free sample. Samples of pads, tampons or liners can be ordered once every six months per household from U by Kotex , with five different products to choose from at the moment.

Libra currently has free samples of their Hotties Heat Patches available online. The stick-on heat patches act like tiny hot water bottles to help you get through the pain. Keep an eye on the Libra site, as they often promote new products by sending out samples.

[SECTION]Pet food[/SECTION]
Thinking of switching brands of cat or dog food? Plenty of pet food manufacturers allow you to order a sample online, particularly of brands which you will not find in supermarkets. Cats and dogs can be particular about what they eat, so it is worth trialling new foods before you commit to buying a full bag.

Try Black Hawk or Ivory Coat , both of which make grain free cat and dog food. Those in Perth can also order samples of natural pet food brand Pet Fare . Holistic pet food brand Artemis will send you dry food samples if you send them a sample envelope.

[SECTION]Nappies and baby products[/SECTION]
With a new baby, you may have no idea which nappies work best. Luckily many companies offer free samples, so you can try out a few and pick your favourite.

You can order sample packs from BabyLove , Snugglers , and Huggies .

Gaia Skin Naturals also sends out free samples of a range of baby products including shampoo, body wash, and moisturiser- though you have to pay for postage by sending them a stamped envelope.

By far the best free sample packs of baby items come from Nice Pak Baby Club and Cherub Baby . Nice Pak sends out a welcome pack filled with goodies to the first 100 to sign up to their online newsletter each month, and similarly each month Cherub Baby sends out a limited number of sample packs containing baby food storage items.

Those in Melbourne will want to sign up to the Mums & Co membership run by Moonee Ponds Central. After signing up, you can collect a free bounty bag containing sample products.

[SECTION]Technology and more[/SECTION]
The online department store Zapals has pages of freebies that you can order- you just have to pay shipping, which around one to two dollars per order. At the moment there is a huge range of products, such as audio and USB cables, LED dog collars, touchscreen compatible gloves, and plenty more. New products are added as soon as the old ones disappear.

[SECTION]Tea[/SECTION]
If you're not a tea drinker, you soon will be after ordering a bunch of free samples.

Valley Green Tea sends up to three free samples of Chinese tea; you just need to send them a stamped envelope and tell them which teas you would like to try. Tea Blossoms has two sample packs to choose from, each of which contain seven different flavours (you pay shipping). You can also try out Guava Tea for free.

Tea lovers may also be interested in signing up to the T2 loyalty program , which entitles you to free samples when you make a purchase in-store, with goodies sent out to members occasionally.

[SECTION]Join a product review site[/SECTION]
You can receive items like cosmetics, household products, and food for free in exchange for filling out a survey on product review sites. Some of the most popular Australian freebie sites are Social Soup , Toluna , and Pinch Me . I have been signed up to Social Soup for awhile, and have not yet participated in any product trials as the majority seem geared towards those with small children. Some survey sites, such as Rewards Central and MyOpinions , also run product review surveys from time to time. As a member of both sites, I have been sent a few products, including chocolate, laundry detergent, and Essie nail polish.
