I bet you're going to love this activity suggestion. If you are a dance lover or secretly admire salsa dance, then you should embrace this unique opportunity to have free salsa classes! Yes. Yes. FREE. The Salsa Foundation offers salsa classes for beginners twice a week: Wednesdays and Thursdays.
It starts at 5.30pm, and guess what? You can go as many times as you want. However, you do need to book a place so they can have a general idea of how many people are going (also, to sort out the female and male ratios). You don't need to bring a partner because you can find one there.
The website is incredibly useful. It also gives you some extra information: 1) Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Flat shoes, girls! Especially if you are a beginner. 2) The dance classes will cover basic steps. So, if you have absolutely no prior knowledge of salsa, it is ok. 3) If you get good or want to learn more than just beginner's steps, the organisation also offers other levels of salsa. However, they are not free.
In regards to location, the dance classes are held in a bar called Stella Maris. It is a great place with free wi-fi, space to hang out and relatively cheap drinks. There is a map link in this article, but I think their website offers a more informed one. You can access it here. There are car parking spots that cost $3, according to them.
If you're shy or still indecisive about whether you should go or not, I'll list a few more reasons to convince you to join them:
- Meet new people. Socialising is important for your personal and professional life. You may even find someone with whom you may have an everlasting friendship.
- Exercise. Don't like jogging or don't have time for sports? Then, dance! You can have a lot of fun dancing and burning calories at the same time. Don't forget that exercise improves your blood circulation (actually, your health in general), therefore you may be able to perform better at school or workplace with casual exercising.
- Try something new. You have never danced salsa? Then I think you really need to try it. Maybe just once to get a taste of how enjoyable it is. Plus, let's face it, where are you going to find a new activity that is fun and free?
