Obstacles in your path? Not anymore
Sunday 23rd February - New Farm Park Soccer Fields from 1pm
Are you one of those people who watches a movie with a crazy sports scene of some kind and thinks, "man, I could do that!". You know, the vampires running through the forest in the Twilight sagas, the flying through the bamboo stalks in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (apologies for putting those two movies in the same sentence, it is merely to illustrate my point), or what about Daniel Craig in Casino Royal?
The scenes from Casino Royal are achievable. If you didn't know it already, this is parkour, otherwise known as free running, and it's totally learnable and totally freaking cool.
Parkour is fast becoming a pretty popular pastime, particularly with young men, but it's really anybody's game and the Brisbane Parkour Association is here to help you out.

Up for grabs are 2 free 2 hour workshops designed for first timers to give you a taste of their techniques, vaults and general flow. Parkour is a super skill-full and fun way to learn how to move through your natural or urban environment more efficiently. It's also a fabulous way to learn to keep fit, run, climb, jump, vault and stay healthy for years to come.
Open to all ages, these free workshops are running from 1pm - 3pm and 3pm - 5pm at the New Farm Park Soccer Fields this Sunday the 23rd February 2014.
The same day also has scaffold classes for students and jammers for only $5, including drinks and fruit, so check their Facebook event page here. They are also keen for volunteers so if you want free classes in exchange for helping out, or just want to check it out, register to give them a hand.
French film District 13 has some serious parkour scenes ( *violence warning*) and Run - Fear Nothing - Overcome Everything is a new movie out this year. Check the Facebook page for amazing behind the scenes clips.
The team from Brisbane Parkour Association will be in the park from around 10am on Sunday with the scaffold classes and demos. So go and have a look, you might discover a new and exciting way of keeping fit, and not only that, it's a heck of a lot cheaper than gym memberships!
