In the spring, summer, and fall, nothing is more fun that enjoying your exercise routine outdoors. However, if you take fitness classes, you may think that you can't do this. Actually, there are several places where outdoor fitness classes are conducted. Some of these are in parks; others are at different locations or venues, such as on a specific street or avenue, or at a skating rink or other place that allows fitness classes to be conducted during non-skating hours.

Alley Pond Park , 228-06 Northern Blvd., Douglaston, NY

This park is located in the borough of Queens, but it is very easy to get to it by either bus or subway. Once you're there, you can choose from fitness programs for adults and children. Children will enjoy the Alley Pond Adventure Course that operates on Sundays at 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM (you register thirty minutes prior to the time you pick.) On Fridays at 9:00 AM, adults will enjoy Tai Chi.

Before and after your Tai Chi classes, enjoy the walking paths, fishing ponds, basketball courts, and other amenities Alley Pond Park has to offer, or just roam around Queens. There's lots to see and do in this fun, exciting borough.

Brooklyn Bridge Park , 1 Main Street, Brooklyn

Cross the bridge from Manhattan (use the pedestrian walkway to walk or bicycle, and get a jump-start on your fitness regimen for the day) to Brooklyn Bridge Park. Then take Pilates with the Fitness Guru every Tuesday from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

On Fridays, beginning July 1, you can enjoy weekly belly dancing classes. Not only is this a good form of exercise, but you'll learn a new skill at the same time. Watch your waistline become slimmer as you swirl and sway to hypnotic Middle Eastern music.

Bryant Park , Avenue of the Americas (6th Avenue between 40th and 42nd Street)

If you've always wanted to learn fencing, you can do so at the 5th Avenue Terrace on Fridays from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Fencing is a great exercise, with its lunges, thrusts, and quick movements providing you with a good overall workout.

If you enjoy less strenous activities, choose from yoga or tai chi classes. Yoga classes are held on Tuesdays from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM and Thursdays from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Tai Chi classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM.

Fort Tryon Park , 1 Margaret Corbin Drive

If you're into walking, meet with others who share your interest on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 AM until 8:30 AM. On Saturdays, you get to sleep in an extra hour, because walking classs don't start until 8:30 AM and last until 9:30. Are you a meadow lark (an early riser)? Then, you'll enjoy Sunrise Tai Chi, held every Wednesday from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM. If you're a night owl, go to Sunset Yoga from 6:45 PM unitl 8:00 PM.

Yoga at the Hockey Rink , Plaza Hotel, 66th Street

Enjoy yoga exercises at the elegant Plaza Hotel on 66th Street. Actually, you can choose from either yoga or pilates, as both are offered. Take pilates on Tuesdays from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM, and Yoga or Wednesdays from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. You'll come away relaxed, refreshed and on your way to a better-looking you.
