1. Get Lost Searching For Laneway Art and Bars.
Melbourne's infamous laneways will have you getting lost as you meander your way through, viewing the fabulous changing graffiti art and searching for the best kept secret bars. Some of the most popular laneways for art include Union Lane, Hosier Lane, ACDC Lane, and Duckboard Place.

2. Explore The Diversity of Architecture
Discover beautiful Gothic, Roman, and modern architecture around Melbourne. From single front terrace houses in Carlton, and Gothic buildings at the University of Melbourne, to the modern buildings of Federation Square, there will be something to satisfy everyone's architectural interests.

3. Enjoy a Picnic or Read a Book in a Park.
Victoria is known as the "garden state", so enjoy a run or walk around The Tan or Albert Park Lake, discover your botany skills at the Royal Botanical Gardens, have a BBQ or picnic at Alexandra Gardens, watch your favourite AFL team train, or bask in the sunshine in your own neighbourhood park.

4. Laze on the Beach
St Kilda, Elwood, or Brighton Beach are conveniently accessible via tram and are lovely spots to soak up some rays, read a book, take a nap, or enjoy the sights. If you prefer to be more active, walk or rollerblade along the Esplanade, or ride along the Bay trail, which runs along the coastline of Port Philip Bay, starting at Port Melbourne and continuing through to Frankston.

5. Music and Demonstrations at Markets.
Listen to live music, learn from cooking demonstrations, participate in fun activities for kids, and browse through endless aisles of clothes, produce, handicrafts, and homeware at Queen Victoria Market, South Melbourne, or Prahran Markets.

There are many fun and free activities in Melbourne. Keep an eye out for my upcoming article on free indoor activity suggestions. Please feel welcome to share any ideas you have too.
