Olive might well be the new black. Well at least olive oil has taken off in ways that nobody dreamt possible.
It is now widely recognised as a health elixir. Three tablespoons a day (such as added to salads for vegetables) will help with all kinds of modern health problems such as reducing high cholestrol. Studies show it is also helpful with inflammation, poor eyesight and blood sugar levels
But it does need to be good quality EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil).
Which is why I am quite excited about this event coming up at the Queen Victoria Market.
As part of the forthcoming Market Week, Pukara Estate are offering a session in their dedicated tasting room on September 6th, 2014. They will go into the history of olive oil production in Australia and what to look for so you can identify certified EVOO.
Sessions will include not only free olive oil tastings but an information pack from the Australian Olive Association.
The Pukara Estate Tasting Room is located at the famous Queen Victoria Markets.
Normally you have to go to rural destinations to find out more about olive oils, so it is great this event is on right in the heart of the city. Especially given the Queen Vic is such a foodie paradise.
