Our dearest Federation Square is turning 10 this October and all are invited to a weekend of free fanfare and fiesta.

Read on to find out how you can partake in these wonderful free activities.

For music lovers
On 27 October 2012, Federation Square will come alive with soul-pleasing music. Throughout the day and night, famous and popular bands will entertain everyone with a wide range of wonderful music.

For kids and families
On 27 October 2012, from 10am onwards the main square will be the setting for ten Arts stations where kids can enjoy ten-minute interactive activities including Mexican storytelling, African drumming, South African puppetry and much more.

On the same day, from 3pm to 5pm the main stage will erupt with magnificent music from Melbourne's best performers including Hong De Lion, Royal Jelly Dixieland Band and City Sessions crew.

For film buffs
A student film showcase has been scheduled to woo the movie lovers with movies being shown on the Big Screen of the Federation Square from 6pm to 10pm on 25 and 26 October 2012. Top 10 movies of the past 10 years, produced and directed by the students of the Swinburne University and the Victorian College of the Arts, will be played on the Big Screen to deliver an extravagance of sensory overload.

On 27 October, the ACMI Cinemas will showcase a marvellous home-grown Aussie movie, the Storm Boy, which can be enjoyed with family and friends. The 2 movie sessions will run at 10:30 am and 1:30pm.

For Art lovers and Art curious
Embark on a unique adventure of exploring a creative installation, woven from huge quantities of willow tree saplings and sticks. This free event will be held at the Flinders Street Amphitheatre from 20 October 2012 until January 2012.

Experience the unsurpassed beauty of some of Australia's finest
glass art in an exhibition at the Kirra Galleries from 10am to 6pm, for one whole month commencing on 4 October 2012.

As the icing on the Birthday cake, you can choose to burn the midnight oil at the Fed Square on 25 October 2012, on the eve of the grand birthday, and go on enchanting expeditions to the NGV( National Gallery of Victoria), Kirra Galleries and ACMI. All these for free!

Not for teetotallers
To mark the 10th Birthday Federation Square will unveil its own brand of beer. The Fed Square Microbreweries Showcase will be offering a sample of the lovely "hoppy" red ale from 24 to 28 October 2012.

For the lovers of architecture
For one whole week, commencing on 22 October 2012, the BMW Edge and ACMI will be the focal point for a range of exhibitions, events and seminars on community and architecture.

For Fashionistas
The NGV Studio will be the centre stage for emerging fashion designers as you will be awed and inspired by a wide array of workshops, talks and dress-ups. This event will be held on 26 October 2012, from 6pm until 10pm.

For car lovers
The Morgan Car Club will present to you an enthralling collection of vintage and classic cars. This impressive event has been scheduled for 28 October 2012 at the Flinders Street.

For the admirers of the Fed Square
Hour long behind the scenes tours will be organised on 27 and 28 October to give an insight into the fascinating history of the Fed Square and its amazing design. This free tour will lead you behind the scenes and underground, introducing you to the phenomenal architecture of the magnificent Fed Square and its impact and contribution to the civic life of Melbourne. Registrations are mandatory.

At 6pm on 26 October, a very special Melbourne Conversations event will held at the BMW edge of the Fed Square focusing on the meaning of federation, relevance of Fed Square and so forth.

Finally, for Foodies
The Salvos will be offering free snags to all from 12pm to 2pm at Flinders Street on 28 October. Feel free to donate some gold coins which will go towards the benevolent activities of the Salvation Army.
