New Year's Eve is one of the most anticipated events of the year, a time to party, celebrate our connections to family and friends, and an opportunity to remember the highlights of the year. Perhaps the most popular place in Adelaide to celebrate New Year's Eve is at Elder Park on the banks of the River Torrens.

Every year, the City of Adelaide hosts a free New Year's Eve concert with spectacular fireworks, plenty of family entertainment, and the 2018 event promises to be better than ever.

Elder Park will be pumping to the sounds of Oz Rock this New Year's Eve with Australian supergroup, Antipodean Rock Collective (ARC), headlining the family-friendly event along the
banks of the picturesque River Torrens. Featuring members of legendary Australian bands Spiderbait, Jet, Powderfinger, and You Am I, the group's members share a passion for rock 'n' roll that spans decades.

Antipodean Rock Collective has entertained audiences from across the globe, from packed clubs to international festivals, including the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Band members Kram, Mark Wilson, Darren Middleton and Davey Lane will perform from a vast catalogue of hits from Australia and New Zealand that will have audiences dancing and singing to those Oz Rock favourites that everyone loves.

New Lord Mayor of Adelaide Sandy Verschoor said that the live music program at this year's event would be a celebration of Adelaide's status as a UNESCO City of Music:

"Adelaide has been globally recognised for its local music scene and we'll be celebrating some of our finest home-grown talent on New Year's Eve with South Australian acts that range from electronic, blues and soul, indie pop, and world music sounds.

The night will not only be a celebration of a year past and a new year ahead but will also be a fantastic opportunity for our local creative musicians and culture makers to get some great exposure. And to get the crowed rocking as we head toward midnight, ARC will play all those Australian music favourites that people love to hear."

The Mudra Dance Academy will fill the stage with colourful and spectacular Indian and Bollywood dancing, and Tim Whitt will take the crowd to midnight and beyond with a DJ set spanning everything from disco, funk, hip-hop and soul.

There'll Be Tasty Street Food From Around the World

As always, two stunning sets of fireworks will light up the sky, one at 9pm and the other will herald the New Year at midnight. Tasty street food from around the world will fill hungry stomachs - think Feisty Filomena, Moorish Bites, Orexi Greek Souvlaki, Taste of Spain, and many more.

Free water refills will be available, the Kids' Zone will keep the little people entertained, and roving performers will bring fun and excitement to every corner of Elder Park.

The City of Adelaide is working toward more sustainable events. This year's event will be straw-free, with reusable straws available if required. All food packaging from vendors will be
compostable and can be deposited in the organics collection, and the free New Year's Eve concert at Elder Park will also be balloon free.

I'd avoid going. Past years the food trucks gave us food poisoning and there was literally no where to sit. As a person with vision problems and other mobility problems, going to high density, over crowded dheeple-fied 'events' like these have become something we stay away from.

Public transport is terrible in Adelaide, coming from 2 other major cities.... it makes us cringe to go to the sane boring elder park, same thing with 5 minutes of pathetic farts of colours they call fire work display.

The line up to get in, feels like a sheep pen. Hearding all the drones in for a bit of distraction. Fenced of beer gardens and hipster pads with the illusion of wow i feel safe cause I'm a sheep in a pen and told to do things and i do them... baaaaah!

Go get New Years in the middle of nowhere and enjoy the peace. Make your own noise instead of being a sheep.
