On Saturday 24th June and Sunday 25th June 2017, visit the Sydney museums for free. Participating museums include the Australian Museum and the MAAS venues like the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney Observatory, Museums Discovery Centre (at Castle Hill). The museums can be visited for free between 10 am and 5 pm on the last weekend of June.
The Powerhouse Museum located adjacent to Daling Harbour in Ultimo is a great venue for young adults and adults alike. It's diverse collection spans technology and science, art and design and engineering to name a few. There's lots to see here for all ages and it never fails to please including NSW's very first locomotive and Mars rovers. My previous visit to the Powerhouse Museum was for the Lego exhibition which was outstanding.
The Sydney Observatory's planetarium is incredible and makes for a surreal experience. Due to capacity limitations at the Observatory, entry for pre-registered ticket holders is only guaranteed.
The Museums Discovery Centre at Castle Hill has also joined the bandwagon with free entry and a number of activities during the last weekend of June. Discover the demonstrations, search for artefacts in the dig pit or learn about luminescence with the glow in the dark bubbles.
While you could expect the museums to be packed, it will make a great fun day out with the family. Make sure you have some cash for food stalls, as many of them accept cash only.
