Gather your young troops and head to Point Nepean National Park on the Mornington Peninsula over the school holidays, to take part in a series of FREE military and marine inspired activities suitable for kids aged 6 -12 yrs.
5th August 2014 marks the centenary of the first shot of WW1 being fired from anywhere in the British Empire, right here in Victoria's Point Nepean, heading up the theme for this winter's Junior Ranger program.
The activities begin with
'Military Mysteries' , as your kids will be challenged to match a series of moments in military time at Point Nepean with awesome objects like cannonballs, mannequin heads for decoys, bullet making clamps and other great artifacts on loan from Nepean Historical Society. Junior Rangers will get the inside scoop on the most important role played by Point Nepean in Australia's military history.
The fun continues with
'Ocean Winter Games'. Junior Rangers will match seaweed and shells, signs and regulations, rubbish and sand toys, as well as marine creature skeletons and bones. Games will include Untangle Me, Limpet Towers and picture card activities, in a series of fun beached themed activities without the worry of getting cold in blustery weather.
Military Mysteries will commence on: 1:30pm – 2:45pm on Tuesday 1 & 3 July and Thursday 8 & 10 July.
Ocean Winter Games will begin on: 10:00am – 11:15am on Tuesday 1 & 3 July and Thursday 8 & 10 July.
Both sets of activities will take place indoors, and are completely FREE, giving your little militaries the chance to discover local history as well as connect with marine science.
Bookings are essential, head to
www.juniorrangers.com.au . (Bookings open 23 June). Children must be accompanied by an adult. Once booked, you will meet at the Information Centre, Quarantine Station, Point Nepean National Park.
