Too cold to go out? Not when there are so many fun events happening in Melbourne - rug up in your winter wollies and enjoy the outdoors in August!


1. European Night Market
Hidden in Madame Brussels Lane, be sure to check out these fun, free evenings of entertainment, offering live music, shopping stalls, roving performers, and international hawker style food and drink for purchase. Madame Brussels European Night Market runs every Friday night from July 22nd to August 12th, from 5pm-10pm. Warm up with mulled wine, feast on German sausages and freshly baked pretzels, and browse and shop through the craft stalls.

2. Melbourne Day
Celebrate Melbourne's 181st birthday on August 30th. The day of celebration includes a free lunchtime concert at Federation Square from noon to 2pm, headlined by Ross Wilson (Daddy Cool, Mondo Rock), Jack Howard (Hunters & Collectors), and Lisa Edwards (John Farnham Band); Melbourne Day regatta at Docklands; competitions, and a family friendly official flag-raising ceremony at Enterprize Park, Flinders Street, including tunes from the 35-piece Royal Australian Navy Band Melbourne, and Enterprize's "first settlers" in period costume. 3. Friday Night Fireworks at Docklands
Enjoy the show and have dinner or a drink from one of the waterfront restaurants or bars. Or pack a picnic, rug up and enjoy the show from New Quay Promenade. Entertainment from 6.30-8:30pm, fireworks at 7.30pm . A family friendly event, running every Friday from July 1st through to August 26th.

4. Queen Victoria Market Winter Night Market
QVM runs its Winter Night Market on Wednesdays, 5pm-10pm, from June 1st to August 31st, 5pm-10pm. Enjoy free music entertainment, eat from over 30 international hawker style food stalls, and explore specialty shopping from artisan designers and vintage collectors. Family friendly outdoor event.

5. Book and Bites at Southbank Library
Meet members from the school of hard knocks, enjoy a free afternoon tea, relax in a welcoming environment, and read along or listen to stories. No long books, no pre-reading and you can participate as much or as little as you like. Thursdays 2:30pm-3:30pm from July 14th through to December 15th.
