Squeeze a mammogram in before lunch (pun intended)
After I had a recent health scare and a long insidious wait to be seen for a mammogram, a friend mentioned that I could have gone to David Jones to have my mammogram.
I admit, I laughed when I first heard, not understanding what a department store and high tech screening had in common, but she is absolutely correct: David Jones provides free mammograms to women over 40 at specially developed clinics in many of their major city stories.
The Rose Clinics are now located in David Jones stores in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, and in case you were wondering, the initiative is a partnership between DJs and BreastScreen, so the mammograms are performed by highly trained medical personal.
The Rose Clinics are generally open weekdays during normal business hours, and appointments can be made by calling 13 20 50 between 8am and 5pm weekdays.
While state health departments and BreastScreen provided the staff and equipment, David Jones covered all the costs of building the clinics.
In Western Australia alone, the clinic hopes to increase the number of women screened by 5,000 every year, and reduce deaths from breast cancer by increasing the number of early detections. Across Australia, over 12,000 women will be affected with breast cancer every year.
A mammogram takes only twenty minutes, about the time you might spend having a cuppa and a muffin, and thanks to DJs, it's now easier than ever to look after your health.
