Find the art treasure along the Lang Lang Art Trail
The spark of true art at Lang Lang Art Trail
Do you love escaping the city and exploring historical country towns? Do you adore local art and meeting local artists? Well this is your chance to roll all of this into one special escape to the country FREE event.
Lang Lang is a tiny town with a population of around 1300 on the Lang Lang River. It is surrounded by stunning farmlands producing beef, dairy and the humble asparagus.
Lang Lang was originally called Carrington, after Lord Carrington, the 1st Marquess of Lincolnshire, who was Governor of New South Wales in 1885.
The name was later changed, but according to Wikipedia, " The origin of the name Lang Lang is debated. In the Australian Aboriginal Woiwurrung language, the name Lang Lang, also spelled Laang Laang, meant "stones" or "stony". An alternate explanation is that the town is named in honour of an early settler in the region, called Lang."
Meet at the Community Centre on May 21, 2017 for Awards Ceremony
Lang Lang is also famous for the General Motors Holden Vehicle Proving Ground and the Lang Lang Golf Course, which you might want to visit on your road trip. And this is all just a little over an hour from the Melbourne CBD along the Gippsland Hwy.
But the best part of your trip will be, following the "Lang Lang Art Trail".
This new initiative has been designed to showcase the township just for holiday seekers like you and me. It encourages art in the local community and showcases the local talent. All the locals have been busy painting and sculpting and creating to strut their stuff and show off that ART is the heart of Lang Lang.
Now, you may think you are headed to some fancy art gallery. Well you would be very wrong. Because you are in for an extra special treat, as the art is spread from one end of the town to the other. You will find art all around you at local shops, in gardens, and throughout local buildings. It will be 1D, 2D and 3D. Don't forget your 3D glasses. And you have over three weeks available to be able to drive down for the day, or book an overnight stay. The show starts on May 5th and goes until May 21st, 2017.
This is art with a difference. And the one essential ingredient you need to enjoy it, besides you and your family and friends, is the Lang Lang Trail Map.
According to Aleta Groves at the Lang Lang Community Centre, "There is a walking trail guide that shows the location of work, explains the work, describes the artist and showcases our town and its businesses. Some Art work is for sale and other work is just on display for the People's Choice award. Visitors can vote for their favourite and go into the draw to win a hamper. There is even a kids trail hide and seek game to keep the kids entertained and they can go into a prize to win a Kids Art Pack."
The awards Ceremony is the 21st of May, 2017 at the Lang Lang Community Centre.
The town is busy preparing
I am already packing. Hope to see you around the town on a bright and sunny Autumn Day in May.
