Capt Jack Sparrow beckons
There has been a great deal of excitement in my hometown of Cleveland this week. Locals have been springing out of their beds before dawn with anticipation and gathering in huge numbers by the shoreline at both sun up and sundown. The calming melody of the early morning birdsong has been replaced by constant chatter amongst strangers, and even those queuing for service at the bank or supermarket throughout the day are breaking into outbursts and exchanging information.

"What do you know?" "Have you spotted him?" "Isn't he just gorgeous" - seems to be all I've heard throughout the week.

It all started with the sighting on Moreton Bay of the Black Pearl, Captain Jack Sparrow's vessel of choice, from the Pirates of The Caribbean movie franchise. Later, the ship was moored at Raby Bay, adjacent to the Cleveland Railway Station.

And that's all it took for the local community to get entangled into a Johnny Depp frenzy.

Days later the actor was spotted stepping ashore where he proceeded to chat and acknowledge the crowd. Some fans have even been photographed out and about in their flannelette PJs in broad daylight, so keen were they to be part of the euphoric Depp crowd.

So where is all this leading, you may well ask….

On Saturday, 13th June, the Redland City Council is presenting two FREE movies at the Raby Bay Harbour Park, both Johnny Depp blockbusters!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (PG) will commence at 4:30 pm

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl (M) will commence at 6:30 pm.

There will be snacks available for purchase, as well as plenty of food from nearby restaurants and cafes.

Bring your blanket and chair as the evening will no doubt turn chilly. The Council are urging folk to wear their onesie and support St Vinnies Homeless Appeal on the night.

And my personal Johnny Depp brush-with-fame story? I unashamedly admit to purchasing a new lipstick just in case he saunters past ….
