Jane keeps popping up after all this time. This year (2017) marks the 200th anniversary of the death of this globally loved author. Reading Jane Austen's books takes a certain mindset and patience, with her lovely lilting command of the English language. But we love everything she stands for, such as gentility, humour, light sarcasm and ruthless wit.

Out in the colonies we are joining the worldwide ceremonies with our own tributes to Jane and her remarkable legacy. What's more the events are totally free. Jane would approve. Here is a selection:

By a Lady: The World of Jane Austen

It uses innovative multimedia to transport you back in time alerting you to the history, culture, geography and lifestyle of the late-18th and early-19th-century Regency period in England. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with Monash University.
