Ahoy, free boat tours
A really good family activity
A great thing to do, now the weather is warmer, is to take a guided tour of the Port of Melbourne. These great tours are not only engaging but totally free.
There is nothing like getting up close to a huge container ship and realising just how hugely awesome they are. You can look up at the giant cranes that stock these boats with containers and marvel at the ingenuity behind it all. Or see the huge berths for dry caroges sucha s cement, grain, sugar and gypsum.
This is a great educational tour for kids and adults like.
Just think where some of these ships are heading. All over the world. See if you can pick where they came from by their flags, insignias and names.
Watch them being unloaded and think about the vast world of international trade which occurs in our port. Did you know that the Port of Melbourne is the largest container and general port in Australia? Or that it handles two million TEU (those twenty foot containers) each year? Well you will know this and a lot more after this tour when you experience this thriving waterworld first hand.
Tours leave from both the Docklands and Gem Pier in Williamstown. They run on the weekends so you can take the whole family.
These fascinating excursions booked out quickly last year so do take note of the booking information below to secure your place.
