You're either groaning or cheering that the kids are on holidays now. Here is a list of free family activities to occupy the kids and grown-ups this festive season to make everyone's festive season an enjoyable one and not a grinchy one.

Free Gingerbread Workshops are being hosted by the creative people at Sunnybank Hills Shopping Centre from December 9th to 22nd December. The best thing about this kiddie-friendly event is that you don't need to book ahead; just line up and let your crafty hands do all the work. The Sandgate Uniting Church is hosting their annual Sandgate Christmas Lights Festival from Thursday, December 12th up to and including Monday December 23rd. The theme this year is 'Peace To You' starting this Thursday at 6pm. A wide variety of events, live music, craft and food stalls is available each night along with the incredible lights display created by volunteers to ogle and admire. Entry is free. Free Christmas Workshops For Kids are available at Loganholme Shopping Centre this week and next week. Thursday December 12th is the Mini Wreath Workshop, Friday December 13th the Gingerbread Decorating Workshop, Wednesday December 18th the Reindeer Ball Balls Workshop, Thursday December 19th the Paper Plate Workshop and Friday Sparkly Snow Flakes Workshop. Ashgrove Library is going all out this weekend with the launch of The New Look Ashgrove Library and has a trove of Free fun events for everyone of all ages. This Saturday, December 14th, there are several kiddie-friendly events to enjoy such as planting seeds in the new Potting Station, create your own comic badge, live children's performance by Red Rocket 3 and nature craft for kids. Picnic Hill on the corner of Oxley and Anzac Avenue Redcliffe will be a hive of activity from 4pm this Friday afternoon. With live music, kids entertainment, craft beer and cider, food trucks and art murals to take selfies with, you can't go wrong with this fun-filled event. The West End Uniting Church will be hosting Free Carols For the Common Good this Sunday for all to enjoy at Bunyapa Park on the corner of Thomas and Vulture Street. This is a great community event to enjoy on a blanket with a picnic and a glass of Chardonnay. Fairfield Shopping Centre Free Kids Workshop

The good people from Street Science are hosting a variety of Free Christmas Kids Workshops at Fairfield Gardens Shopping Centre. The science flavoured Christmas activities include Create Your Own Snow on Monday and Tuesday, Christmas Ornament Making on Wednesday and Thursday, Festive Glitter Slime on Friday and Saturday. The new Boondall Wetlands Environmental Centre has just opened and has many Free activities for families and children to enjoy these holidays. It doesn't matter the age there is a variety of activities to tickle anyone's fancy such as the Indigenous Nurri Millen Totem Trail, Bush Kindy, Bush Buddies, guided walk through Boondall Wetlands, Flying Origami and much more.
