I'm a freelance writer living in Perth. Having 2 young kids with endless energy, we are always on the lookout for new outdoor activities.
Event: -
Festivals, fireworks, and more fun
November is a difficult month to write for, simply because there are just too many events to list. So I have to omit some of them, often for no particular reason other than that I run out of space. But that's the joy of living in Perth, so it's a good complaint to have. In the meanwhile, I hope you can find a few things you like from this list to enjoy with your family.

Fremantle Festival
When:
Sun, 1 Nov, 2-8pm.
Where: Fremantle.
More info here.

The first day of November happens to be the last day of the Fremantle Festival, so it's music, parade and party time. Firstly, there's the Sunday Music (2-4pm; Fremantle Arts Centre) with Timothy Nelson performing. Straight after, the Street Parade will start at 4pm from the Esplanade Reserve and will go through the streets of Fremantle including Essex St, South Tce, and Market St before it finishes at Kings Square at 5pm, just in time to start the Closing Party which will finish at 8pm. It promises to be loud however in a family friendly way, so don't hesitate to take the kids to these events. Please note the streets affected by the Parade will start being closed to traffic from 2pm.

Music from the Movies Performed by WAYJO
When:
Sat, 7 Nov, 4-8.30pm.
Where: Wanneroo Showgrounds, cnr Ariti Ave & Wanneroo Rd, Wanneroo.
More info here.

Kids can sometimes find music performances boring if they don't know the songs however there's no risk of that here as WAYJO (WA Youth Jazz Orchestra) will be performing music from movies we love such as Monsters Inc., The Incredibles, and more. And although this music performance is the main menu, it's not all there is. There will be other kids entertainment as well, making it well worth it to spend an evening at Wanneroo Showgrounds. Tickets are free of charge but required, so get yours online today.

Perth Open House Junior
When:
Sun, 8 Nov, 10am-2pm
Where: WA Museum, Perth Cultural Center.
More info here.

This annual event has been called Box City in the past but this year it's been integrated into Perth Open Day, so now it's called Perth Open Day Junior. But what's in a name, a rose in any other name and all that... so let's all go to the WA museum (Hacket Hall) for this one day and build a city made of boxes. All materials will be provided, so you only have to bring your creativity with you.

Swan Festival of Lights
When:
6-8 Nov, 4.30-9.30pm
Where: Supreme Court Gardens, Perth
More info here.

Swan Festival of Lights is a celebration of the Indian festival of Deepavali. But fear not, you don't have to be an Indian to visit and indeed, they want all the community members to celebrate this together with them through music, dancing, food, and to close off each evening around 9.30pm: fireworks. The performances will be multicultural, from ballet to Ukranian cossack dance to Japanese drummers, they have it all. To see the complete list of performances, visit their website.

Turning on Christmas Light
Turning On the Christmas Lights
When:
Fri, 13 Nov
Where: Forrest Place, Murray St. Mal, Perth.
More info here.

We have a wonderful tradition here in Perth of turning on the Christmas light by the Lord Mayor supported by Santa (or is it the other way around?) on a Friday evening about 6 weeks before Christmas day itself arrives. From there on, the city will become a lit up place, inviting us to visit regularly for shopping or other events in the Festival of Christmas such as the Christmas Pageant. At the time of writing, the City has not yet released any details about timing of the switch-on, so pencil in the date in your calendar and check their website a bit later for further details. As a reference, last year they did it at 7.30pm with Christmas carol sing-a-long on the side and of course the much anticipated arrival of Father Christmas on his sleigh.

Super Saturday Science
When:
Sat, 14 Nov, 11am-12pm.
Where: Knowledge Centre, 2232D Albany Hw, Gosnells.
More info here.

City of Gosnell invites all budding scientists out there age 7 or older to join them for a morning of exploring titled "All Absorbing Fun." There will be soaking, blotting, mopping and sucking up liquids of all colours and types using different methods--Moms can only hope they are not absorbed beyond help into the kids' clothes. Booking is required at 9391 6000 or email
Library_queries@gosnells.wa.gov.au.

Let's Celebrate Belmont
When:
6-28 Nov.
Where: City of Belmont.
More info here.

Vic Park Summer Street Party
When:
Sun, 29 Nov, 2-8pm
Where: Albany Hw between Mint & Dane Sts, East Victoria Park.
More info here.

Sunday 29 Nov is two days shy of summer but who's counting as long as we're invited to this celebration. This is a new annual event in the form of street festivities, including: music, dancing, food, kids entertainment, and more. Seems like all family members are catered for.

Free Flicks for Kids
When:
Every Sat, 5.30-7pm
Where: Northbridge Piazza, cnr Lake & James Sts, Northbridge
More info here.

And lastly, if none of the above suits, there's always Free Flicks for Kids to go to. And as the evening becomes balmier, it's getting even more comfortable to just pop into Northbridge for a 1.5 hours of free and easy movie entertainment. The schedule for November is as follows:
