Don't let Her Majesty have all the fun. Here are five fun and free events happening in Brisbane on the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend.

Friday, June 7


Kick start the long weekend at Market Street in the city. This lively laneway will host a free, mini jazz festival from 5pm on Friday, featuring Tyrone Noonan, Scat, and Raw Metal. Enjoy a selection of craft beers on tap, boutique wines and Champagne from Malt with shared plates and nibbles available (unfortunately, not free).

Saturday, June 8


After twelve long years, the British and Irish Lions are returning to Australia. Meet the mighty Lions from 2pm to 3pm in the Queen Street Mall, ahead of their first test against the Queensland Reds at Suncorp Stadium. Selected players will be on hand to sign autographs and take part in fun challenges.

Sunday, June 9


Join in the fun at South Bank on Sunday. Queensland Week Celebrations include free live entertainment and activities from 12:30pm to 3pm. The Phoncurves, Brother Fox and Texas Tea will perform on the Piazza stage while awesome activities include Zumba demonstrations, dragon boat displays, facepainting, chalk art, ball challenges, badminton, giant games of Connect Four and a fun photo booth.

Monday, June 10


Head to the Brisbane Powerhouse (New Farm) to view the cream of the crop from the 56th annual World Press Photo competition. The Powerhouse will display the prize-winning pictures until June 23, including the Press Photo of the Year 2012 by Paul Hansen from the Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter; a poignant picture of a group of men carrying the bodies of two dead children through a Gaza City street on their way to the burial ceremony.

Archive Beer Boutique (West End) is hosting a free, pop up party to celebrate the Queen's Birthday long weekend. Party in the Archive car park with the Out-Cider bar, live music, DJs and a few surprises. The fun begins at 5pm on Friday and from noon until 10pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
