1. Movies Under the Stars at Docklands
Bring a picnic blanket and hamper to Yarra's Edge, Docklands and watch a free movie screening under a starry night. The site opens at 7pm and the movie begin 8:30pm. The event also includes Made in Melbourne short film screenings each week celebrating local talent, a free return ferry service from Federation Square (departing at 6:30pm from the Riverside berth) for the first 120 guests, and free bean bag hire to the first 100 guests!

2. Moomba Festival
The biggest Melbourne festival in March, running over the Labour Day long weekend, from March 9th-11th, Moomba celebrates 60 years in 2015, bringing carnival rides, trapeze workshops, live music, sporting competitions, family friendly activities, the infamous Birdman Rally, and a spectacular fireworks display each night. A free outdoor event, appealing to all ages.

3. Hot Wave Music Festival
Docklands hosts it's first free music festival for local independent artists on Saturday March 7th! Twelve independent bands and artists will perform music styles from hip-hop, pop, electric, blues, and jazz at the Hot Wave Music Festival . This free family friendly event runs from 11am til 11pm, also includes food, games, and raising funds for charity. View the lineup of bands here .

4. Japanese Summer Festival
A vibrant festival filled with traditional and contemporary Japanese culture, food, activities and entertainment, The Japanese Summer Festival will be held at Federation Square from 1pm to 5pm on March 8th. Taiko drumming, shamisen, break dancing, martial arts, origami classes are a few of the many family friendly activities to be enjoyed.

5. Warrandyte Festival
Local bands, artisian markets, camel rides, a giant water slide, a Billy Cart Derby, make the Warrandyte Festival one that will have you feeling part of the community family. Stroll along the Yarra River and purchase arts and crafts, enjoy festival food, watch the town parade, and listen to free live music from new young talent throughout the weekend of March 20th-22nd.
