Who says you need to spend a fortune to go to events? There are plenty of free events around Brisbane; you've just got to find them. Here are some ideas:
1. Free Dancing @ QPAC
Embrace the diversity of all dance forms at QPAC's free dance event - Feet First. If you are a keen dancer then this is for you. Experience ballroom to ballet, with an assortment of music such as groove, hip-hope, rockabilly, swing, tap, just to name a few. Appropriate for people of all ages and abilities so don't be shy to come along and get groovy! Sessions will not only provide demonstrations, but also the chance to have a go and learn short routines.
Kids and families out there, don't miss out on Saturday sessions as they are designed especially for you guys. You'll hear Michael Jackson classics - 'MJ Mix' as well as the popular Bollywood. Live bands will come on stage Saturday nights so if you're keen to hit the dance floor, why not try QPAC's outdoor stage under the stars?

2. Free Visual Arts Program @ Brisbane Powerhouse
Embrace the diversity of all arts at the Brisbane Powerhouse. Whether you're into comedy, visual arts or music, there's bound to be something for you. Thanks to the support of Brisbane Airport, there are various events for you to attend every week.
The free visual arts program features Australian and international media arts including photography, projection and sound art. You will be exposed to quality documentary photography and photojournalism by attending these programs, which will also allow you reflect on the world we live in and give you a better understanding of the human condition. These are frequently accompanied by artist talks and forums, which in turn encourages community engagement with the works. 3. Free Music @ Brisbane Powerhouse
Not a visual arts fan? Perhaps you're a music fan? Then don't miss out on Brisbane Powerhouse Saturday sessions from 5pm to 7pm every Saturday. Now this is what you call a diverse program. Celebrate world music and dance with artists from culturally diverse backgrounds and ethnicities; get up close and personal with favourite Australian singer-songwriters; jazz up with smooth groves, funky tunes and bebop; and sing along to original pop tunes performed by QUT's young musicians. 4. Free Comedy @ Brisbane Powerhouse
Held every Sunday evening, Brisbane Powerhouse's comedy program, Livewired, guarantees to have you laughing your socks off. Originally curated by Josh Thomas and now handled by Tom Ward, it is a great way to finish your weekend. You will see local, interstate and international comedians covering a variety of styles, all for $0! Now this does prove that the best things in life are free. 5. Free Classical Music @ Queensland Conservatorium
If you're like me, a classical music fan, then you'll be interested in this. Classical concerts and a hefty price tag often go hand in hand, but that's not always the case. Take advantage of Queensland Conservatorium's free lunchtime concerts. Starting at 1:05pm on most dates, why not chill out there listening to the talented musicians as they delight your senses. Performances by the strings department, wind department, guitar ensemble, vocal ensemble, among others are scheduled throughout the year. See here for more details.
