If you are looking for best free events in Perth in August, then here are some of the biggest and most interesting things this month.

**1. Spring Into Armadale
**When: Tuesday 1st August to 31st August
Where: locations across Armadale

Taking place across the entire month, the Spring into Armadale Festival is a collection of diverse events from fashion shows to hawkers markets, tulip festivals to the art trail. Don't forget the popular Highland Gathering and Kilt Run – there will be something for everyone.

2. Avon Descent Family Fun Days
When: Friday 4th to Sunday 6th August
Where: Northam, Toodyay, Bayswater, Ascot and Bassendean

The Avon Descent Family Fun Days are held alongside the famous white water race and consist of five family-orientated events in multiple locations across the 124km course. Starting in Northam, there are also events in Toodyay, Bayswater, Ascot and Bassendean. Each event is slightly different but all offer free family activities, plenty of food options plus possibly rides and games, parades, markets and more.

**3. Toodyay International Food Festival

Taking place on the day of the fabulous Avon descent, the Toodyay International Food Festival will showcase dozens of delicious international food stalls, designer cupcakes, live performances and plenty of free activities for kids and families.

**4. Perth Science Festival
**When: Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th August from 10am -4pm

This cool free event is for kids and adults alike and will have more than 70 experiments and interactive stalls for you to get involved with. There will be science shows, tours, native animals, explosions and more.

**5. UWA Open Day

Whether you are about to finish high school, a teacher, parent or curious member of the community the UWA Open Day provides a huge range of interesting events, activities, tours, competitions and prizes and more. There will be plenty of information, talks and exhibits for future students plus lots of fun for everyone else including a fortune teller, a photo bay to turn yourself into a virtual peacock, glitter hair braiding, silent disco, telescopes, rock climbing and more.

6. The Curious Collective Market
When: Sunday 13th August from 9am -1pm

One of Perth's newest markets, the Curious Collective promises contagious enthusiasm, plenty of new and curious things and generally something different. This is an indoor/outdoor market with more than 45 stalls all by local creatives and small businesses.

7. Save the Children Book Sale

One of Perth booklovers' favourite events, the Save the Children annual booksale at UWA is one of the biggest sale of second-hand books in the state. With a huge range of genres plus CDs, DVDs and sheet music, they also have special bargain days on Tuesday and Wednesday.

8. Chem Centre Open Day
When: Saturday 19th August from 10am -4pm
Where: Building 500, Corner of Manning Rd and Townsing Dr, Bentley

The ChemCentre is WA's leader in chemical and forensic science and you are invited to a special behind the scenes event with tours of the forensic and chem labs, dress up and help solve crimes, see special guests from the WA Police and Department of Fire and Emergency Services, free liquid nitrogen ice cream and fairy floss, exhibitions, shows and more.

9. Perkins Open Day
