The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival is back again this year from Friday 28 February to Sunday 16 March 2014.
There will be over 200 events celebrating all things aquatic, and filling restaurants, laneways, basements and rooftops in Melbourne, as well as regional Victoria. This is your chance to wine and dine to the max. Taste some of the most amazing cuisine by the best chefs, and sample delicious wines by Australia's top winemakers.
Of course, there are awesome freebie events that you can attend throughout the festival. So read on and start marking your calendar, ladies and gents.
From Saturday 1 to Wednesday 5 March, head to The Immersery, Queensbridge Square for
Healthy Breakfasts from Around the World and begin your day with a fantastic yoga class followed by a showcase of healthy breakfasts from around the world. Be amazed by the scrumptious food and flavours on display by Melbourne's finest chefs and you'll also get the chance to speak to nutritionists from Diabetes Australia - Vic about your health and wellbeing.
The
Mordialloc Food, Wine & Music Festival , set against the breathtaking backdrop of Port Phillip Bay, will be playing host to all ages, foodies, wine buffs and musos on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 March. Nosh on your favourite eats, drink merrily and groove to salsa. Expect cooking demonstrations, dance workshops, performances, children's activities and market stalls on top of a whole heap of merchants selling gourmet food and alcoholic beverages. Entry costs a gold coin donation (which is pretty much free anyway).
Join the festivities at Southgate on Saturday 1 March for an afternoon and evening of food and wine celebrations at
Southgate Fiesta . With live music filling the air, food and wine tastings to delight the masses and movie screenings, you wouldn't want to miss out on this fabulous event.
Book worms can enjoy an afternoon of good reads and good wine at
Wine & Books on the Water on Saturday 1 March. Sip on your wine as you hear about others' reading experiences.
Head to
Dandenong World Fare where a world of food is waiting for you to explore on Sunday 2 March. Culinary delights, cultures and entertainment from all over the world showcasing cuisine of the Mekong, Ganges, Murray-Darling and Niger so make sure you bring your appetite.
If you are a cook whot's crazy about seafood, then you will love
Seasonal Stars Go Fishing on Thursday 6 to Friday 7 March. The award winning chef Adam D'Sylva will lead attendees through the Queen Victoria Market. You'll be introduced to Adam's favourite dishes from our still waters, rivers and oceans; learn about handling and cooking seafood; enjoy free tastings and even take some recipes home.
Is it possible to get a bucket to mussels for just $5? At
Port Phillip Mussel Festival it is! Come and join the celebrations of Australia's favourite seafood - mussels, held over two big days from Saturday 8 to Sunday 9 March. It's mussels galore, I tell you. Expect mountains of mussels from restaurants and street vendors, and endless live music with the sounds of Dixieland and New Orleans Jazz. And don't forget to get a bucket of juicy, succulent mussels!
Explore the extraordinary flavours of teas from around the world at
Flavours Tea House on Sunday 9 March. Enjoy a traditional style high tea buffet sampling teas and tasty treats from Sri Lanka, Sudan, Korea and Australia. Hear about the Korean tea ceremony and talk about the politics of tea while you sip your tea and munch on treats.
And head to
Goods Shed Harvest Festival on Saturday 15 March for a nice day out. If you need to fill your fridge and pantry, then this is the time and place to do it. There will be heaps of the freshest local food and produce as well as the region's best wines and brews waiting for you to sample. What's more, great entertainment, children's activities and cooking competitions will ensure a whole day of fabulous fun.
