Brisbane, like all Australian capital cities, is positively packed with free festivities of the Christmassy kind this December. There are markets, craft workshops and Christmas Carols events all around town. But if you've had your fill of Christmas cheer you can still find some fabulous free events sans Santa, Rudolph, Christmas carols and celebrity singers. Look to art, music, movies and a community carnival to finish off your year of Brisbane freebie fun.
Seven With Another Art Exhibition
This is an art exhibition of a very different kind. The concept behind Seven With Another is the pairing of creatives from different fields to create artworks together. This is the sixth edition of this triennial event and pairings this year include a digital artist and illustrator with an opera singer and a jewellery designer with a fashion designer. Come and see the surprising results.

Oxfam Dodgeball Community Carnival
You don't have to be Ben Stiller or Vince Vaughn but you can try duplicating some of their moves at the Oxfam Dodgeball Community Carnival. The day will include not only dodgeball but giant games, raffles, prizes and and Oxfam stalls. Entry to the event is free but it will cost if you want to register a team of between 6 and 10 people.
It won't be tinnitus that will be ringing in your ears this December, but handbells, large and small, at Super Critical Mass at King George Square. Usually the province of religious services or musical performances these handbells are described as "an immersive and meditative sound installation". Be prepared to be wrapped in the poetry of percussion.

Free Movie Nights at Chinatown Mall
Wednesday nights are family movie nights in December. Organised by Brisbane City Council and held under the Grand Awning at Chinatown Mall, the December program of Free Movie Nights is chock full of fun and nostalgic offerings from the 1980s. The kids will love Ghostbusters, ET, and that Christmas classic, Home Alone.

World By Night
The annual celebration of vibrant world music, World by Night, is back for another year. If you're all carolled out you may want to hear the beats and dance to the rhythms of music from the four corners of the world, organised by Brisbane Multicultural Arts Centre. Craft markets will also feature.
