Healthy Sunshine Coast is once again rolling out across the Sunshine Coast from the first week of February, with a return of the '
Choose to Move' campaign, offering free and affordable activities in local parks and community venues.

The '
Choose to Move' free community yoga provides an awesome no-cost activity and is an ideal introduction for anyone who is keen to practice yoga.
Firstly, yoga is not all about being able to bend your body every which way but up (including looking like a pretzel), nor is it even about standing on your head for prolonged periods of time! In actual fact, long before social media and gym gear became trendy, '
doing yoga' didn't involve the body at all. The heart of yoga has always been about the practice of understanding the mind … and yoga poses are just one way of achieving this.
The philosophy of yoga is based on eight limbs with only one of them,
asana, being about the poses. The rest -
yama, niyama, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and
samadhi are really the moral and ethical codes for one to live one's life by. These codes are intended to help people live meaningful and purposeful lives; to have compassion and not to be controlled by one's sense of self-worth (ego) and trivial thoughts that might seek to dominate one's thought processes, if permitted.

For many of us yoga devotees, yoga is more about the physical benefits, improving strength and balance as well as attaining greater flexibility, making everyday activities easier on the body.
While the community yoga classes are free to attend, yogis will still need to JOIN the program before attending the first class. Booking ahead also reduces the time it takes to sign in.
