Free Comic Book Day is always held on the first Saturday in May, so in 2016 it's on the 7th. It's a worldwide celebration which encourages individuals unfamiliar with comics to visit their local comic book shop. Anyone can visit their local participating store and ask for their free comic book.

The day started in 2002 and is coordinated by the industry's single large distributor, Diamond Comic Distributors. The day has three main purposes: to introduce people to the joy of reading comics, encourage former readers back and thank current readers for their loyalty and support.



Comic books began in the 1930s as a unique American art form which has expanded and spread throughout the globe. Today you can find comics for every taste and genre.



There is a list of some of the limited edition comics which will be given away in some stores on the F website .



These include Archie, Doctor Who, Pokémon, Assassins' Creed, Bruce Lee, Captain America, Super Hero Girls, Grumpy Cat, Phantom, Pink Panther, Sonic Sampler, Sponge Bob, and Strawberry Shortcake.
