Every year Christmas seems to come around faster and faster, so it really pays to be organised. Get out those diaries and mark this one in so you don't miss it.
Presented by the City of Sydney, in Martin Place, the annual
Children's concert and tree lighting ceremony is a lovely way to get the whole family in to the Christmas spirit.
This years concert promises to be bigger, brighter and better than ever before. Hosted by Rhys Muldoon, the concert is sure to entertain with special performances by
Guy Sebastian , The Smurf Christmas Show,
Jay Laga'aia from Playschool, Lah Lah's Big Live Band and Christmas carols performed by the
Australian Girls Choir .
Of course, it wouldn't be Christmas without an appearance by the big fella himself, Santa, who is scheduled to arrive in his sleigh and make what is sure to be a very popular appearance on stage.
The big finale is of course the lighting of the huge Christmas Tree. Standing 21 metres high and decorated with 58,000 lights and more than 300 stars, the tree will be topped by a massive seven point star which is sure to sparkle under the spectacular fireworks display.
This year, City of Sydney welcomes a new Christmas Charity Partner, The Australian Children's Music Foundation. Christmas showbags full of goodies will be available for a gold coin donation that will go towards supporting the foundation.
After the concert you can follow the performing choir along Pitt Street to the Pitt Street Mall, where many stores will be open until 10pm, so that you can start the other grand Christmas tradition – shopping.
Public transport is your best option for this event.
Buses run regularly along George, Pitt & Elizabeth Streets.
Wynyard & Martin Place Train Stations are the closest city stations to Martin Place.
