After enjoying part 1 of the Free Brisbane list, bring on more fun in Brisbane with these free events and activities in September.

  • Relics to Rights: Aboriginal People and Anthropology – daily, 11am - 3pm
  • At the University of Queenland's Anthropology Museum, discover new insights about Aboriginal culture from the images and objects created by Australia's indigenous people, revealing a diversity developed over vast distances and centuries of interaction. Visit the UQ website for details.

  • Food Story Tour – Tue, Thur, Sat, 12pm - 12.45pm
  • Be guided on a personal tour of the Museum of Brisbane's latest exhibition of art inspired by our local farmer's markets and unfolding in 3 sections, beginning with Tastes Like Sunshine, continuing to Food Futures and concluding with Harvest to Hearth.   • Redcliffe Park Run – 16 September, 7am

  • Cub Comedy – Saturdays, 9pm - 11pm
  • Giggle at the amateur comedians sharing their best jokes at the Australian National Hotel in 5-minute open-mic sessions of all forms of comedy, including stand-up, sketch and musical.   • Think Fit Live Fit Festival – Sundays, 10am - 3.30pm

  • Art From The Margins – until 17 September, 10am - 5pm
  • AFTM celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2017 with an inspirational exhibition of the artwork created by people in adversity in the Brisbane City Hall. Using art, people living with the pain of homelessness, mental illness or physical disability, have shared a brave collection to aid all those visitors in similar pain.   • Child Superheroes – 28 September, 9am - 1pm
  • In this play session on the Little Stanley Street Lawns, children will leap from the comic book fantasies as they hear superhero stories, play heroic games and colour in exciting drawings of heroes in bright costumes. Visit the Little Days Out website for details.

  • Jazz by the Jetty – 24 September, 11.30am - 4.30pm
  • Lounge on the warm lawns beside the waters at Bribie Island Road at Sandstone Point as jazz jumps from the jetty while a food stall on the anchored trawler offers freshly caught seafood, cheese and deli platters. Visit the Sandstone Point Hotel website for details.

  • City Sounds – weekends throughout September
  • Australia's largest free music program presents rock, pop, jazz, electronica, blues, country and alternative tunes from local and touring artists. Continuing throughout August, highlights include J.B. Paterson with folk and blues in the style of Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie, Blue Child Collective with oceanic harmonies and My Nightgale with smooth, soulful melodies.   • Live Kirtan – Fridays, 6pm to 8pm
  • In the Mantra Room at 236 Montague Road, West End, the world's first exclusive Kirtan venue, experience the resonating rhythms of expressive music and transcendental chanting, creating an enchanting atmosphere for a special form of group meditation. Special guests, the Soul Sistas, will perform beautiful four-part harmonies and simple, melodious tunes.



  • Knockoff Comedy – Fridays, 6pm to 7pm
  • Laugh your way into the weekend with Funny Fridays at the Brisbane Powerhouse. A quirky mix of Aussie comedians will hit you with their outlandish stories, silly one-liners and laugh-till-you-snort observations. On the last day of the month, chaos takes the stage with the ImproMafia using improvisational comedy instead of Mafia-inspired crime to tickle your funny bone.   • Sunday Sessions on the Green – Sundays, 2pm - 5pm
  • Relax on the lush lawns at the River Quay Green with live music beneath the warm sunshine on an easy Sunday afternoon. Call (07) 3867 2170 for details.

  • Freedom Then, Freedom Now – daily, 10am - 5pm
  • In the State Library in Stanley Place, reflect on the history of Australian freedoms in a new exhibition focusing on post-WW2. As our state grows, Queenslanders now enjoy more personal freedom but there have been, and still are, challenges, as this exhibition highlights, in the areas of voting and protest, dress, gambling, tobacco and alcohol, marriage, censorship, travel, vaccination and home ownership.   • Carseldine Farmers & Artisan Markets – Saturdays, 6am - 12pm
  • Prep for weekend feasts with a trip north to 532 Beams Rd, Carseldine for regional produce, gourmet treats and art. Taste test fresh food ranging from artisan-baked bread, waffles and pies to stonefruit, strawberries and avocados with a backdrop of live music and games for the kids.
