After enjoying part 1 of the Free Brisbane list, bring on more fun in Brisbane with these free events and activities in October.
  • Astronaut Stories – 3 October, 6.30pm - 9pm
  • As Elon Musk prepares us for blastoff to Mars, hear about life in outer space from Christer Fuglesang , a Swedish astronaut. Christer spent 26 days on the International Space Station and over 31 hours on spacewalks. Hear about real-life experiences in space at the GHD Auditorium in the University of Queensland.   • Taste of Egypt Fete – 7 October, 10am - 12pm
  • Egypt, home of the pyramids and Tutankamun, is celebrated at the Virgin Mary Coptic Orthodox Church on 2 Hamish St, Calamvale. Join the cultural fun with camel rides, face painting, henna, traditional dance and Egyptian cuisine. Stay for the fete's fireworks finale. Email [email protected] for more info.

  • Isuzu Queensland Golf Open – 26 - 29 October
  • Line up for tee off at the Brisbane Golf Club on Tennyson Memorial Avenue, Yeerongpilly. This golf tournament features a competitive combination of professional and amateur golfers, with previous events seeing Greg Norman and Jason Day compete. They have both been ranked as the No. 1 golfer in the world during their careers, and you may spot the next No. 1 competing here in 2017. Visit the Queensland Open website for details.

  • Open Mic Night – 13, 27 October, 7pm - 10pm

  • Children's Festival – 14 October, 3pm - 8pm
  • Join the family-friendly fun at the Robelle Domain Parkland, with face painting, train rides, martial arts and lion dancing workshops. Taste the international cuisine from pop-up stalls while enjoying the live performances from orchestra musicians, circus artists and dancers. At 8pm, look to the sky for the fireworks display.   • Core Strength Class – Tuesdays, 5.45pm - 6.30pm
  • Take time out from the strain of long cardio sessions with a class to improve the strength and flexibility of your core muscles, including the abs, back, glutes and obliques.   • Music Biz Forum – 4 October, 4pm - 8.30pm
  • Keen to crack into the music industry? If you're a music lover, budding producer, publicist or performer, the industry professionals, from BIGSOUND, Triple J, and the Tiger Beams will give you the inside info on the music business.   • Relics to Rights: Aboriginal People and Anthropology – daily, 11am - 3pm

  • Food Story Tour – Tue, Thur, Sat, 12pm - 12.45pm
  • Be guided on a personal tour of the Museum of Brisbane's latest exhibition of art inspired by our local farmer's markets and unfolding in 3 sections, beginning with Tastes Like Sunshine, continuing to Food Futures and concluding with Harvest to Hearth.   • Think Fit Live Fit Festival – 1 October, 10am - 3.30pm

  • City Sounds – weekends throughout October
  • Australia's largest free music program presents rock, pop, jazz, electronica, blues, country and alternative tunes from local and touring artists. Continuing throughout October, highlights include Tennyson King with earthy roots and blues, Amber Lawrence with authentic country, Loa with enchanting lyrics and FretBuzz with modern Latin jazz.   • Live Kirtan – Fridays, 6pm to 8pm
  • In the Mantra Room at 236 Montague Road, West End, the world's first exclusive Kirtan venue, experience the resonating rhythms of expressive music and transcendental chanting, creating an enchanting atmosphere for a special form of group meditation. Special guests, the Soul Sistas, will perform beautiful four-part harmonies and simple, melodious tunes.

  • Knockoff Comedy – Fridays, 6pm to 7pm
  • Laugh your way into the weekend with Funny Fridays at the Brisbane Powerhouse. A quirky mix of Aussie comedians will hit you with their outlandish stories, silly one-liners and laugh-till-you-snort observations. On the last day of the month, chaos takes the stage with the ImproMafia using improvisational comedy instead of Mafia-inspired crime to tickle your funny bone.   • Sunday Sessions on the Green – Sundays, 2pm - 5pm

  • Freedom Then, Freedom Now – daily until 2 October, 10am - 5pm
  • In the State Library in Stanley Place, reflect on the history of Australian freedoms in a new exhibition focusing on post-WW2. As our state grows, Queenslanders now enjoy more personal freedom but there have been, and still are, challenges, as this exhibition highlights, in the areas of voting and protest, dress, gambling, tobacco and alcohol, marriage, censorship, travel, vaccination and home ownership.   • Carseldine Farmers & Artisan Markets – Saturdays, 6am - 12pm
  • Prep for weekend feasts with a trip north to 532 Beams Rd, Carseldine for regional produce, gourmet treats and art. Taste test fresh food ranging from artisan-baked bread, waffles and pies to stonefruit, strawberries and avocados with a backdrop of live music and games for the kids.
