Frederic Bar and Bistro is the latest addition to the famed Reymond family. Their father, Jacques Reymond, has been one of Melbourne's most famous chefs and continues to mentor his children in their business ventures.
This will be the third venue by siblings Nathalie, Edouard and Antonie. Their already established venues, The Bistro Gitan and L'Hotel Gitan, are situated in South Yarra. Both venues have a strong reputation for fine French cuisine as well as outstanding service and Frederic is no different.
Frederic offers diners two separate areas, Fred's bar and Frederic, the main dining area. Fred's bar offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is ideal for either a grab and go breakfast, casual drinks after work or a romantic date night.
The dining area is much more intimate and still has all the flair and class of their other venues. The menu features French classics as well as Mediterranean influences too.
French staples such as steak tartare, chicken liver pate and sweet corn madeleines are present. There is also flathead ceviche, broad-bean risotto and grilled octopus. The steaks are also a must-try. They are a speciality at both Bistro and Hotel Gitan and Frederic didn't fail to live up to the expectation.
Dessert is just as equally impressive. With Greek influences such as loukoumades served with brown butter creme Anglaise, to the rotating souffle of the day. For cheese lovers, there's an impressive selection of cheese to choose from, ranging from blue, brie and semi-hard cheeses from all around the world.
