An extraordinary song cycle
Fred Smith is acknowledged to be one of Australia's best songwriters. A Canberra resident, he has also done two tours of duty in Afghanistan as a member of Australia's diplomatic community, tasked with creating understanding and cooperation with tribal leaders. This resulted in some amazing stories and songs, which led him to write and record the outstanding music for his CD 'Dust of Uruzgan', which has been acclaimed worldwide. This also spawned a book with the same title and a series of presentations featuring Fred's music and emotive photographs taken while in Afghanistan.
In 2021, he returned to Afghanistan to assist in the evacuation of locals at risk after the Taliban takeover and this experience has given birth to a new song cycle 'Sparrows of Kabul', which will be presented in South Australia for the first time this week.
There will be 2 shows, the first in McLaren Vale on Thursday 29 September, followed by a second in Prospect on Friday 30th. Tickets for these shows are limited, but will be well worth tracking down. Bookings: www.trybooking.com/CCKJE
