If you've already taken the mammoth journey all the way from our beautiful, rainy England to the sunny shores of Australia you're probably already having a very good time and don't need any advice from the likes of me.
Tough luck. You're getting a tip whether you care for it or not and here it is: Go to Fraser Island.
That's the end of the article.
Tough luck. It's not the end of the article, that was just me lulling you into a false sense of security. Now, I'm going to tell you why Fraser Island is so great, and it's not just because it's a UNESCO world heritage site, or because there was an article on it in National Geographic.
Fraser Island is amazing...because...it is perfect for those of us that struggle to make decisions: You can enjoy long stretches of beach and varying types of forest (including a subtropical rainforest) and it's all on one island.
Unless you are prepared to hire a 4WD and brave the terrain, or live with the possibility of changing a flat tire with a dingo looking at you, it is a good idea to get yourself on a tour. There are many tour operators for Fraser Island, but to give you a head start, here are a couple of links: Fraser Explore Tours Cool Dingo Tour
Tours run from a number of places, including one of my favourite places, Brisbane!
If ferry journeys leave you feeling less than pretty, then you might want to drive to somewhere like Hervey Bay where the ferry journey is considerably shorter (approximately 30 minutes depending on your landing point).
That's everything guys, I'll finally leave you peace - hope you enjoy Fraser Island!
