I'm a Melbourne girl, born and bred, and new resident of Geelong. Fantabulous adventures await as I explore my gorgeous new city and the stunning Surf Coast. But don’t worry—I’ll be crossing the bridge regularly to get my Melbourne fix.
Join in the beachside fun and celebrate fabulous Frankston
Start the countdown, Frankstonites, as the Frankston Waterfront Festival is back for another fantabulous year. Showcasing all that is great about this beautiful bayside city, the Frankston Waterfront Festival will be held on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th January 2016.
The action kicks off at 11.00am on the Saturday at the Waterfront's 7N Pier Promenade, and entry is free! That's right, folks, FREE. Bring some cash for food, rides and amusements, but for everything else, all you need are your friends, family and your snappiest pair of summer board shorts to enjoy fabulous Frankston at it's finest.
Nothing says summer beachside fun more than a carnival, and the Frankston Waterfront Festival will feature a whole bunch of rides and amusements for the thrill seekers among us, as well as some tamer rides for the little ones. And of course, don't forget a ride on the Ferris wheel for some stunning views of the Frankston beach and beyond (just hold that iPhone tight when taking a selfie with the beautiful bay in the background).
The Frankston Waterfront Festival also gives everyone the opportunity to try their hand—and feet—at a bundle of beachside watersports. And what better place to give things a go than when you're buoyed up with festive spirit? There'll be laughs aplenty as you have a go at stand-up paddle boarding, canoeing, sailing, snorkeling and there'll even be a dive tank. Who knows, you may very well discover a new passion!
If you prefer your beach activities to be on dry land (and don't mind a bit of sand getting, well, everywhere) ditch your thongs and try some beach soccer or even beach hockey. The Banana Boat Beach will be decked out with its huge inflatable soccer pitch, and the friendly Banana Boat folk will be beachside with complimentary sunscreen to keep the summer rays at bay.
There'll be plenty of food available to purchase to restore your dwindling energy supplies after all that frolicking, as well as beer, wine and cider—cool and crisp, the perfect pairing to a summer's day at the beach. The Live 'n' Local stage will be on fire all weekend with plenty of live music to keep you entertained—and break out your dancin' shoes if you're in the mood for a little beachside boogie.
Enjoy a wander around the market stalls, beholden with local produce and home made and home baked products, and give something back to this vibrant community. You might also like to sidle away from the festivities for a moment, and check out the ever-amazing Sand Sculpting Australia, which runs throughout summer from Boxing Day (tickets must be purchased separately, and are available on the day).
You can also check out Sand Sculpting Australia while you're at the festival.
The Frankston Waterfront Festival is a kids' paradise, with plenty of activities to keep your little beach bums happy. Pack the bathers for a swim with 'mermaidens', and for the little green thumbs in the making, they can learn how to grow their own fruits and vegetables. And to cap it all off? There'll be fireworks on the Saturday evening from 9.45pm—the perfect way to celebrate summer in Frankston—with a bang.
The festivities run from 11.00am to 10.00pm on Saturday, and 11.00am to 6.00pm on Sunday. Frankston is super easy to get to using EastLink, or you can also catch the train to avoid parking hassles. Check out the website for regular updates, and follow the event on Facebook. Then dig out your summer frocks and Hawaiian shirts and get ready for summer's biggest beachside party in fabulous Frankston.
