Online FrankTALK on Wednesday 5 August 2020 from 6-7pm is an online author talk with Paul Goodwin. It's FREE to attend, but REGISTRATION is essential!
The Last Navigator is a remarkable and heroic story, and a powerful first-hand account of Gordon Goodwin's dangerous and brave war experiences as recalled for his son and author Paul Goodwin. His father told him - to survive you had to surrender all hope. Such was the extraordinary mantra followed by the men of Bomber Command. It was what allowed Gordon to come through the war and propel forward to a successful career with Qantas, ending up as its chief and possibly last navigator.
A decorated airman and an inspired leader, Gordon Goodwin served in probably the most dangerous occupation of all during WW II. He flew with the Pathfinders that led bombing raids into Germany; undertaking 32 Pathfinder missions, including nine over Berlin, and 65 missions over enemy territory with Bomber Command. Yet, raised in harsh and under loveless circumstances outside Brisbane during the Depression, surviving his childhood was perhaps a greater achievement.
