Charming cafe in a relaxed setting overlooking a lake
Welcome in the new year at Frankie's Food Factory, a cafe that serves delicious food in a tranquil setting. As we entered Frankie's, the interior opened out into a rustic bush shed with corrugated iron walls, wooden palings and cross beams and milk jugs hanging from the rafters. A fruit and vegetable cart in the middle of this scene added to the rural charm of this cafe. Retro tables and chairs and the variety of plants, bird cages and pendant lights hanging from the ceiling all added an interesting and welcoming environment. The adjoining atrium which is airy and colourful has plenty of seating with a playground at the back. This delightful space has a small outdoor seating area overlooking an attractive lake. It's a calm oasis with trees hanging over the water and ducks gleefully paddling around the fountain.

Frankie's Food Factory is located within the Flower Power Garden Centre at Glenhaven, the largest of their garden centres on a massive eleven acres. Members of their Garden Lovers Club can get a 5% discount at Frankie's.

The menu at Frankie's was extensive and mouthwatering, with gluten-free and vegetarian options. As well as breakfast and lunch selections, Frankie's serves kids meals all day. They also offer a set menu from $38 per person with a minimum of 12 guests and a kid's two-course set menu for $19 with a minimum of 8 guests.

The food orders did not take long to arrive. Our milkshakes were quirky with chewy snakes wrapped around patterned straws, very refreshing on a hot day.

My choice of Willie's Waffles ($16) was a treat. I attempted to convince my foodie companions that strawberries, blueberries and banana were nourishing and wholesome, the pot of ice cream was a rich source of calcium and the chocolate pot was to infuse its recipient with energy. The crunchy waffle? Well, heck, that's for fibre.

My friends ordered the Pumpkin and Prosciutto Salad ($19), the Prawn Taco ($16) and the Prawn Burger ($22). They all nodded their approval. The staff were friendly and efficient in delivering our orders and we agreed that this is a place we will return to.

On hot days, I would suggest dining in the atrium, as it was humid in the main dining area. With its peaceful outlook, this light-filled space is perfect to relax.

Nice article. I'll have to remember all that goodness next time I have a waffle.
