Before Hugh Jackman, before Mel Gibson and even before Errol Flynn, there was Frank Hagney, Australia's most prolific and hardest working actor in Hollywood.
But there is far more to Frank Hagney than just being a Hollywood actor. From boy soldier in the Boer War to winning the Marathon Rowing World Championship at the age of 44, the life and times of Frank Hagney is a boys own adventure that is so far fetched that it couldn't be true. Except, that it is, all true.
Born in Sydney in 1884, Frank grew up in Fairfield with the family later moving to Liverpool.
Frank's life's journey took him from the Boer war in South Africa to a professional cycling and sculling career in Australia. In 1914, the adventurous pioneering Frank headed overseas and was crowned the South American Boxing Champion in 1916. Ending up in Hollywood in 1919, he would appear in over 400 films and TV serials in a 50 year career.
The free talk is part of the
Liverpool Genealogy Society's monthly meeting. It will feature many excerpts of Frank's forgotten Hollywood roles in films such as It's a Wonderful Life, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Ride Him Cowboy and TV serials such as Daniel Boone
