I'm a mother of four with two coeliac children. I'm always on the lookout for great gluten-free spots around Brisbane and feature gluten-free cooking in my blog: I'm also a muso and enjoy live music around town.

Coffee aficionados - test your tastebuds

The Coffee Flight Trio ready for tasting

Brisbane has certainly embraced the coffee scene, it seems like every day there is new shop popping up, as well as local roasters. Of course that means that Brisbane-ites like to see themselves as coffee aficionados, preferring a dark roast to a medium roast, or perhaps beans from Columbia or Brazil, depending on their taste. But how well do you really know your coffee?

You can sit and taste your coffee while watching the roasters at work

Luckily, Fox Coffee in Geebung gives you the opportunity to tune your tastes buds and appreciate the finer nuances of the coffee roast. Currently, for $15, they are offering the opportunity to taste three of their limited drop Brazilian coffees, all from the same plantation, with very different roasting techniques. The Coffee Flight Trio features coffee from the Colombian El Diviso Plantation, a family run farm founded in 1997, which sits 1770m above sea level. The three different roasts which have been chosen by Fox Coffee are Geisha Honey Process, Tabi Natural Process and the Sidra Natural Process. The coffees are presented all at once so that you can try each and compare the flavours. Tasting tips and notes are provided, including a spot to make your own notes. Incredibly, despite coming from the same plantation, all of the coffees tasted very different from each other, with my personal favourite being the Sidra, which tasted of kiwi fruit, mango and dark cherry, with a chocolatey finish. If you decide to take home the coffees, then you can purchase a pack of the three different roasts for $99.

I was definitely a convert, and have vowed to have fewer milky coffees so that I can really appreciate the flavours of the different beans and roasts. Fox Coffee has a cafe serving sweet treats, with ample indoor and outdoor seating. If you sit indoors, you can watch the coffee being roasted as you sip.

I like the idea of a coffee taster, it's just a bit different.
