Over in the Docklands, housed in the statuesque, heritage-listed Queen's Warehouse building, lies the home of the Fox Classic Car Collection.
Founder of Linfox Transport, Lindsay Fox, purchased approximately 120 cars over a period of 20 odd years, which includes famous makes like Bentley, Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes Benz and my personal favourite, Jaguar. At any given time there are about 50 cars on site.
The collection is located at the historical Queen's Warehouse, which has an interesting history in its own right, as the customs house since the 1890s and the location for the printing of the first Australian bank notes in 1913.
In 1997, the Lindsay Fox car collection was installed into the building and contains one of the largest collection of Mercedes Benz in the southern hemisphere. Amongst the vehicles of great interests, are the Porsche 550/1500 RS Spyder 1956, Volkswagen 1303 Cabriolet 1976, 1951 Jaguar XK120 Roadster and the Mercedes Benz 540 K Cabriolet B 1937.
The collection is open to the public on Tuesdays (10am-2pm), Wednesdays (10am-2pm) and Saturdays (10am-1pm). Check the website for more details. Photos are allowed but you cannot touch the vehicles themselves.
Whether it's an early treat or belated gift for Dad on Father's Day or his birthday, why not bring him down and let him marvel at this magnificent collection at his own pace?
