[SECTION]Family Playgrounds and Parks in Brisbane [/SECTION]

The greater Brisbane area has many great suburban parks for the family - I've taken a particular interest in special playgrounds with flying foxes and pedal trains. I personally like the new ziplines/flying foxes the councils are installing recently - they're fun even for us adults when the park is quiet. Both Pine Rivers Park in Strathpine and Whites Hill Reserve Park in Camp Hill have ziplines.

I like parks with both playgrounds for the kids and open space for the dogs (and older kids). That way everyone is covered! Parks with outdoor gyms are a good bonus too, like Perrin Park in Toowong.

Read on to discover my favourite parks and cool playgrounds.

[SECTION]Pine Rivers Park in Strathpine[/SECTION]

Pine Rivers Park in Strathpine, on Brisbane's northside, has a reasonably sized playground set up amongst the trees and some picnic tables. This park has a pedal train around the outside of a little hedge maze.

I like that Pine Rivers Park is nestled amongst the trees and shrubbery, just off to the side of a set of picnic tables - it gives the park and playground a nice earthy feel. The playground is divided up into a few smaller areas around the shrubbery, so the kids and parents can rotate their play.

Scattered around the playground are various designs which the kids can play I-SPY with - metal butterflies suspended from above their heads, stencil shapes on the ground, and turtle and crocodile shaped mounds to climb over.

There is also the usual playground equipment plus a climbing gym and a small zip line. Moreton Bay Regional Council is in the process of upgrading the park to add around three more picnic tables and barbecues which will probably be finished in August or September 2021. And there is a toilet block too. There are plenty of carparks inside Pine Rivers Park including parents and disabled spots. It is at 125 Gympie Road, Strathpine.

[SECTION]UQ Educational Playground in St Lucia[/SECTION]

The UQ Educational Playground along Sir William MacGregor Drive (by the river and UQ playing fields) is a joint venture between the University of Queensland and Brisbane City Council.

It has plenty of interactive toys for kids to play and learn on - from musical instruments, matching games to an electronic tap the colours pole game.

For looking and learning, there are nature-themed and Aboriginal-inspired art and pavement designs. There is even a pretend archaeology dig - which is sort of creepy - but cool looking. And of course, there are picnic tables and a climbing gym.

There are a few car parks and plenty of parallel parks on Sir William MacGregor Drive and the neighbouring streets.

[SECTION]Perrin Park in Toowong[/SECTION]

This neighbourhood park in Toowong is surprisingly expansive. Perrin Park is along Josling Street and divided in two parts by a small creek with a footbridge. On one side of the park is the playground and adult exercise gym while the other side has an off-leash dog park and some picnic tables (plus a toilet block and wild birds).

The playground here at Perrin Park is petrol station themed with a mechanical flower bed area for something different. This playground also has a kids pedal train and spinning things and climbing apparatus for the kids.

The exercise gym is also well equipped for the adults with exercises for your arms and legs, and a few of each kind of exercise machine so it shouldn't be full even in the busy times (social distancing aside). Parking along Josling Street would be the easiest.

[SECTION]Whites Hill Reserve Playground in Camp Hill[/SECTION]

Whites Hill Reserve in Brisbane's South East near Camp Hill is an expansive nature bushland and wildlife reserve maintained by Brisbane City Council. The playground area itself has many kinaesthetic toys and two fun flying foxes down a decent incline - the flying fox actually lasts for about 10-20 seconds. Just be careful getting off it as it rises up as you remove your weight, so help your kids off the zipline.

The playground has plenty of parking and there are barbecue facilities both inside and outside the fenced playground. Opposite the playground are two local football ovals, and of course many walking trails around Whites Hill Reserve itself. Drive in off Boundary Road Camp Hill.
