I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.

The opening play for 2018 season of Castle Hill Players at the Pavilion Theatre is the humorous Four Flat Whites In Italy by Roger Hall. Set in 2007 and the present day this 2008 play is being well received by packed houses. The name of the play refers to the main protagonists as well as the common antipodean coffee order.

Watch the following video regarding a 2011 Ensemble Theatre production of Four Flat Whites In Italy to get a taste of the action.

The cast is comprised of three men and three women. Four playing the roles of two mis-matched couples on a trip through Italy, with the other two playing various 'Italian' characters. Zip off trousers and a Lonely Planet guidebook also have important roles.

Much of the humour of the play hit a nerve with the audience, many of whom would have had similar experiences travelling. Even the characters were familiar, the stitched up, bossy, penny pinching Alison, the flirty, 'trophy wife' Judy and the boastful, well off Harry. Misunderstandings and confusion reign supreme against the backdrop of a very clever set design that evoked a whimsical sense of Italy.

It is not all laughs though as through the course of the play we learn more about the characters and their relationships. From mere acquaintances thrown together by circumstance true friendships develop and a broken marriage is healed.
