The river-side town of Mannum has a lot to offer tourists. Well-known for its picnic areas, river-cruises and the beautiful vista of sandstone cliffs, there is plenty to see and do in a weekend or more. But there are also attractions to suit other tastes as well, and for art and craft lovers there's Forty Four on Randell.

Forty Four on Randell is a combination gift shop and gallery. You can linger a while and admire the work of a number of local artists including the shop's resident sculptor, Jacky Charleston. You can also purchase any of the works on display, as well as a variety of unique gifts for all occasions.

Jacky is a member of the Mannum Creative Communities group and has a passion for promoting local artist and performers. Forty Four on Randell is one way in which she does this.

The venue is owned by local businessman and talented photographer, Dave Hartley, who offered the shop for use by Creative Communities members. You can also see Dave's work on display there.

Although quite humble about her talent as an artist, Jacky's rare ability to combine a variety of mediums to create visually stunning pieces is obvious. While she began experimenting with clay a number of years ago, she has only emerged onto the scene in the last two years as an artist to be reckoned with, honing and perfecting her techniques to create unique and beautiful pieces unlike any I have seen.


Some of her more popular works combine clay with natural wood to produce exquisite, other-worldly pieces, from wood-nymphs and dragons to garden creatures.

As well as the regular weekend opening times, Forty Four on Randell hosts an annual exhibition as part of the SALA (South Australian Living Artists) event, showcasing works on a theme by local new, emerging and established artists.

In the coming year, Jacky also has plans to offer workshops from a room at the rear of the shop teaching a variety of styles and mediums. She is more than happy to chat to visitors and to share her knowledge of the local art scene.

Forty Four on Randell Gifts and Gallery is situated – as the name implies – at 44 Randell Street in Mannum – right next to Izzy's Ice Creamery – and is open Friday 11am till 4pm, Saturday 10am till 4.30pm and Sunday 11am till 4pm, so next time you're in town call in and say hello. You might just find your next treasure there.
