Crossing the Tuncurry/Forster Bridge for the first time is magic; the water is a blue you've never seen before and the feeling of calm is imminent. After the 3.5 hour drive north of Sydney it is a welcome sight. Forster is the centre of the Great Lakes, offering the perfect beach holiday.
Whichever beach you choose to swim at will not disappoint. One Mile Beach is popular with surfers and families alike. The sand dunes offer endless fun for the kids or those that are kids at heart. Foster Beach and the bay offer a calmer environment without the waves and with sand bar islands that you can explore.
When you're all tuckered out from the sun and surf you're probably ready for some dinner. Friday night at
Forster Bowling Club has it alll; a huge projector screen for the footy, drinks and
Danny's Family Restaurant. Although there is usually a wait at Danny's, the buffet is well worth it. I'm talking fresh prawns and oysters, salads, Chinese food, Italian food and a good old Aussie roast all for $20 per person - even less for kids! Make sure you save room for dessert because you do not want to miss out on the Fresh pavlova, flavoured ice cream, lemon meringue pies, cupcakes, chocolate mousse and all the trimmings. Yum!
Now your eyes are slowly closing and your stomach is full and content. Life is good. It's time for bed. Forster has so many
accommodation options from caravan parks to 5 star hotels; there really is something to suit every one and every budget.
The best part about it all is that you can do it all over again tomorrow.
Sleep tight!
