With the new Royal Adelaide Hospital now fully operational, the government is keen to breathe new life into the derelict old RAH. While Dark History Tours of the old hospital are selling faster than hot cakes, demolition work has already begun on parts of the hospital campus.
The vision is for the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site to be transformed into a creative and innovative neighbourhood. Government hopes to create high value jobs and industries to secure employment for many South Australians, positioning Adelaide as the start-up capital of Australia.
Get a Birds Eye View of the Former Royal Adelaide Hospital
It's hoped that the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site will foster the world's fastest-growing industries such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, smart sensor networks, robotics, big data, defence and space technologies, and media and creative industries. However, to date, there has been little chance for the public to see what is happening there.
On Wednesday July 11 Renewal SA has is holding a free Open Day at the former Royal Adelaide Hospital. Come for a free behind-the-scenes tour to the Observation Deck, and discover the progress as you learn the history of the hospital. You will also see the future of Australia's first creative innovation neighbourhood as it unfolds.
Watch the demolition in real time using a virtual window, and see the buildings on the east side of the old hospital come down. Hear first hand from an archaeologist as he explains what has been found below the surface.
