Form Dance Projects - Fostering Dance Culture in Western Sydney
During the FORM Dance Bites 2014 Program - 11th September to 13th September, the audience can experience a Double Bill performance. The program presents contemporary performance works by NSW and Australian choreographers, with leading dancers and artists.
The Double Bill performance includes:
Sketch and
Between Two and Zero. The two performances are supported by Dance Makers Collective.
Sketch is a full length work by Flatline. Flatline is a new collective (of dancers) that combines many artforms in a new performance experience. During this dance, three dancers, a visual artist and a composer will transform the theatre.
Not to give too much away, the Sketch performance uses three mediums to create a hyper sensory experience. The performance combines old and new technology, with lines, curves, colours and sound to explore the spaces between art forms.
Between Two and Zero
Choreographed by Matt Cornell and Miranda Wheen, "Between Two and Zero" is about two dancers, imagining their social dance for the future. During their performance, and by changing the "rules of play' their dance (partnership) displays many emotions, ranging from intimacy, competition and gender politics, to tenderness and the simple beauty between two people.
Carl Sciberras, Matt Cornell and Miranda Wheen, are founding members of Dance Makers Collective, and are three of the ten choreographers who make up the Dance Makers Collective. Dance Makers Collective allow professional dancers an opportunity to create high quality contemporary dance works.
What is FORM Dance Bites? A brief history.
In 2000, the Parramatta Riverside Theatres and Ausdance NSW set up an outreach program of the NSW Ministry for the Arts, Western Sydney Arts Strategy. Western Sydney Dance Action (which has been renamed as FORM Dance Projects) became an incorporated association in 2004. Part of the reason for forming the FORM Dance Projects was due to successful dance practices and initiatives in Western Sydney.
The Dance Bites season was established in 2003. IT provided local and regional artists with support to present their work in Western Sydney, at Riverside in Parramatta.
Since its beginning, FORM Dance Projects has created relationships with other Western Sydney Arts venues, including Riverside Parramatta, The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, Campbelltown Arts Centre, Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and Powerhouse Youth Theatre.
After 10 years of growth, in 2011, the Western Sydney Dance Action, a professional and sustainable arts organisation, emerged under the name of FORM Dance projects. The organisation (FORM Dance Projects) has continued to develop under its directors.
This is a brief overview of the history of FORM Dance Projects. You can view more of the history by clicking here.
